"On the back of the news of our first 1 billion syringes it seems appropriate to look forward to the next billion.  This is therefore a good opportunity to let you all know that we have reached agreement with a new licensee.  Becton Dickinson (BD) is a genuinely global business based in New Jersey in the United States and is a multi billion dollar corporation operating across a broad spectrum of medical devices.  

The BD website (www.bd.com) describes the company as "the world's leading supplier of devices that help to reduce the incidence of sharps injuries and exposure to bloodborne pathogens".  This makes BD an entirely appropriate partner for Star and we are very pleased that after many years of competing we will now be cooperating.  Estimates of the size of the global syringe market vary but the most widely used figure is 50bn sold each year worldwide for all applications.  BD enjoy a significant share of that total and clearly influence market trends and product design and development.  This is an important development for Star and, whilst at least in terms of our size we are the junior partner, we believe BD also see it as a positive development for their business and an opportunity to further their credentials as a socially responsible manufacturer of safety medical devices."
